paper Seed Backup and a template for engraving Seed Plates.

   

 

 

PHYSICAL STORAGE OF (SPLIT) SEED PLATES

There are endless possibilities on how to store your engraved seed phrase. Below, we explain very simple, but nonetheless effective ways to physically store your BACKUP STEEL Seed Plates.

Examples:

 

1 out of 1 storage - most basic
1 seed phrase = 1 Plate (24 words)

1 (or multiple) storage locations = (each) 1 Plate

 

2 out of 2 storage - basic
1 seed phrase 
= Plate 1 (First 12 words)
= Plate 2 (Last words)

Storage Location 1: = Plate 1
Storage Location 2: = Plate 2

 

2 out of 3 storage - best practice
1 seed phrase = Plate 1 (First 8 words)
= Plate 2 (Mid 8 words)
= Plate 3 (Last 8 words)

Storage Location 1: = Plate 1 + Plate 2
Storage Location 2: = Plate 2 + Plate 3
Storage Location 3: = Plate 1 + Plate 3

Please note that even if you split a seed phrase in multiple parts, you should handle each part with care and store it in a safe location, as if it contained the full seed phrase.

You can use any other method (e.g. Shamir or more sophisticated) with our BACKUP STEEL Seed Plates.
